Communauté de communes du Sisteronais-Buëch (Federation of Municipalities)

The Communauté de Communes Sisteronais-Buëch is nestled in the south of the Hautes-Alpes near the gentle mountains of the Buëch and the border of the Alpes de Haute Provence department, in a bend formed by the Durance river and the Serre-Ponçon dam.

The Haute-Provence UNESCO Geopark and the Baronnies Provençales Natural Regional Park are its major assets. Apple and pear orchards and fields of lavender reign supreme and the hilltop villages such as Serres, Rosans and l'Épine are full of character with a Provencal mountain feel and are home to fine arts and crafts. The "Hautes Terres de Provence" groups together middle-mountain villages and hamlets with altitudes between 600 and 1200 metres.

In summer, there are many refreshing water points in settings such as the Gorges de la Méouge and the leisure activity base of La Germanette in Serres. There are a large number of open-air activities such as climbing on the world-famous cliffs in Orpierre, free flight on the Montagne de Chabre overlooking Laragne-Montéglin, aviation on the aerodromes of La Bâtie-Montsaléon and Vaumeilh, along with mountain biking and hiking with the Sommet des Monges, the highest point of the Prealps whose peak reaches an altitude of 2,115 metres and the Grande Fistoire Via Ferrata.

The Sisteronais-Buëch area has many different aspects which are all marked by a rich history which can be seen, for example, in the thousand-year old Priory of Saint-André de Rosans with its mosaics, and the majestic citadel of Sisteron.

This territory is also focused on economic development with its 6 business parks in which several have land for setting up new businesses and which are mostly near the town of Gap in the Hautes-Alpes.
