Jobs and skills
According to a study carried out on the Val du Durance by OCO Consulting in 2012, the Alpes de Haute Provence numbered 56,000 jobs, representing an increase of 22% from 1989 to 2007 (15% in France and 24% in the regions).
This increase of over 10,000 jobs is to be found mainly in paid employment, jobs which currently represent 85% of total employment. Moreover, three quarters of paid jobs are located in the Durance valley.
At industrial level, industry in the Alpes de Haute Provence represents 13% of the department's added value. The number of SMEs is estimated at over 90%.
Thus the departmental economy is essentially linked to service activities. 8 jobs out of 10 are in the tertiary sector and 6 out of 10 in trade.
